If We Drill In The US, We Don't Get The Oil

Just passing on an article by Cenk Uygur, Huffington Post, that explains why more drilling doesn't mean lower gas prices:

One thing has been driving me crazy about this drilling debate -- everyone seems to assume that if we drill for oil in the US, that we will get the oil. And hence, we won't be dependent on foreign oil anymore. But we won't get anything, Exxon-Mobil will.

Things O. J... never considered

To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the sun:
A time to snuggle roommates, and a time to be snuggled by cellmates.
A time to be “up and coming” and a time for come-uppense.
A time to be a jock and a time for three hots and a cot.
A time to swim in glory and a time to drown gory
A time to be “in the life” and a time to do “life.”
A time to be a ham and a time to be damned.

Lesson From a Crisis: When Trust Vanishes, Worry

By DAVID LEONHARDT
Published: September 30, 2008 in
The New York Times

In 1929, Meyer Mishkin owned a shop in New York that sold silk shirts to workingmen. When the stock market crashed that October, he turned to his son, then a student at City College, and offered a version of this sentiment: It serves those rich scoundrels right.

How many Zeros in $700 billion ?

Sad to say, but Math wasn't my best subject. But as the decimal point moves another space toward the right, when does the amount become impossible for the average human being to comprehend?

The BIG news of the weekend seems to be the $700 billion dollar bailout. From what the latest news reports are saying, we are about to increase our projected national debt from $11 TRILLION to almost $12 TRILLION... (that's dollars folks) in order to TEMPORARILY avert an impending financial catastrophe caused by a combination of corporate fraud and government mismanagement.

When Blue Eyes and Blue Skys Bring the Blues

What then this emptiness? This incomplete dream? A certain something, dismissed before coffee meets cream? River Sadness swirls murky between ocean and stream?

Where’s the void, Paul Newman once handsomely . . . filled? In a world more ugly, diminished, and chilled?

I tell you my friend, it’s this HUGE hole in my heart. My cup of grief's full, and . . . too heavy . . . to cart.

Help for the poverty-stricken in Koochiching County

If we are so worried about people in Africa going hungry, why not worry about the people in our own community going hungry?

This is a little group I am hoping many will join to help the people in our community who go hungry. Maybe start up a monthly or weekly soup kitchen.
