didn't Langan bring down like two other schools in the past? i have heard that from so many other people. Do any of you know it's true? If so is he doing that to our school too? And i agree it should of been handled better and they should of got them out alot soon then they did. They should of had a better plan and the should of known that this kind of stuff and happen in ANY school. look at red lake! They might be a little smaller and the shooter went on a rampage and killed family and kids at the school. Look at littleton (columbine) they had a really little town too! It happens everywhere wether it's in a small town or not and i think every school should be prepared for that.

Lesleyk, i never once said i have heard all of the facts but i did say that there are enough facts out ther for most parents to decide on if it was handled right or not, i have choosen not to send my children back there until they "they get it together" and this means all staff, no one will make bad choices at my sons expense, or anyother childs expense, my point to all of this is , they new there was a threat, right ??? Then what in the hell were the kids still doing in that school?? There is alot of butt covering, so someone knows that someone messed up, i for one have to agree and say he should resign, because i don't think he is fit to keep my kids safe, and you are more worried about our mob-like posts than the fact that in all reality our kids could have been in real danger so you can keep your head in the sand and think that all was handled well, and the rest of us in the real world will pick up where the school dist couldn't go "KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE" and if you want to start a PTA then im all for it lets do it put your money where your mouth is, i have no problem telling all of what i have said in these blogs to anyone face to face, its the only way things have potential to change, and there is alot that needs to change, there is nothing anyone can say to make me think that they did a good job, i have payed close attention to the other school shootings and if this is how the falls school dist handles threats then were all in danger!!! Maybe ask others that have been in this situation, maybe ask someone in Red Lake, if there is anything that they would change, they had the same problem they had a threat that no one would think was true, what hapened there?? They were wrong, DEAD wrong and many children had to pay for there bad decision, I for one am not going to be in that same boat...so maybe you should learn some of the other facts from other schools in this situation before you come here and put down the rest of us, I do know enough facts on how this should have been handled, I will not write this off as a "live and learn" i have lost alot of sleep over this. WAKE UP this can happen here as well as anywhere else, they messed up and it needs to be taken very seriously, as it is your childs ife on the line, not something I'm willing to gamble with and I'm sure many many other parents would agree!!!

First of all I didn't suggest that you weren't concerned, next I have never once asked for his resignation where did youcome up with that. Get your facts straight before you accuse me of something. No I have never been a superindendant but I have carried alot of responsibility in my life. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how this should have been handled. How do you know that I don't have children in school. Your sure are presuming alot here.You brought up doubts about the call--did you not hear that he had to play the call 60 times? Yes he called law enforcement---at 9:00! How you justify this man's actions is on you. He held your child's sweet life in his hands. I truely believe if any parent had been in on this so called conservative approach at that very time they would be running to their child and bringing them to safety. I would lay my life down for mine. P.S I have four beautiful grandchildren in this school district who never should have been put at risk for one minute!

I think he could have handled it differently, but I don't think that requires him to lose his job. Have you even been a superintendant, six? I haven't. I wasn't there that day, either - were you? Nor did I listen to the phone message. You don't have children in school, yet you have called for Langan's resignation from the get go, why?

As far as I know, we have never drilled for any situation like this. Sure, there may be some evacuation plan on the books, but putting something like that into action when it's never been practiced and when there are serious doubts about the call . . . He called law enforcement, he took a more conservative approach, he didn't just delete the call.

I am truly thankful that nothing happened to either of my children and you better believe that I hugged them tighter Wednesday night when I tucked them into bed. When my husband got out of the Navy, we moved back to his hometown for the smaller community and safer schools, so don't think that I am not concerned about this situation or the events following it.

lesleyk----mob-like mentality- I don't think so. As far as I can see no one has condemned the staff at FHS. There has been only one person that is to blame for this fiasco and that is Langan. He screwed up and he should be held accountable. Bottom line. BY the way what does pay have to do with saving childrens lives? You as a parent and all the parents were very lucky very lucky.

This topic and the views have turned into a mob-like mentality and that's what I am concerned about. Do I think the situation was handled perfectly? Of course not.

There needs to be some changes made to insure our children's safety, no doubt. BUT condemning staff that are already underpaid, etc. isn't the appropriate way to go about it. I think the way people are approaching this issue is ridiculous, calling for resignations, etc. I was more than pleased with my children's teachers and how they dealt with the situation - during AND after. I actually have thank you notes written to both of them for the care and concern they showed to my children and the rest of their class.

I would have liked the situation handled better, definitely, but that doesn't mean someone should lose their job. It means we as parents become proactive - not reactive - in this community. Did you know we don't even have a PTA? When my son started school last year, I wanted to get involved and there was NOTHING! There was a PIC (parent involvement committee) or something like that, but that group was only for the playground equipment.

Obviously, if parents are so concerned, then lets start a PTA or something similar to get more involved!

And viperboy, not ALL the facts are out yet. Have you listened to the call yourself??? Were you there meeting with all the local law enforcement agencies??? There are many facts I am sure we have not been made aware of because there is an ONGOING investigation. They don't release all the facts!

Viperboy, now that the facts have been made public I totally agree. First thing get the humans out of the way of potential danger. Then figure out if the threat is a hoax.
Perhaps if enough parents want to get together and work out a plan of action, one that includes drills just like when we did firedrills, and nuclear attack drills with different gathering places in cooperation with all the transportation agencies, and churches, or others who wish to help. One aside, something like this usually falls to law enforcement and they may not be so interested in having ordinary citizenry tell them how to do their jobs even if we do pay their salary.
I know I would be willing to do what I can to help.

there are enough facts out there as it is now for most parents to see enough wrong done, however i do see your points, but i also have followed school shootings as many parents do when their child is in school, and the falls school district as a whole screwed up they made the same mistake everyother school made, they stuck their head in the sand and said" it can't happen here, this is a small town" and if othere parents want to back their choices at their childs expense then go ahead I'm not going to join any of you, you can keep telling yourself it won't happen here,and praise their actions, and then when something really does happen and somones child is killed or hurt, you have no one but yourself to blame, alot of people are praiseing the way they handled it, this is telling them they don't need to change anything, you are wrong they have alot of work to do on keeping children safe, and hey I'm all for meeting with who ever to finding a solution, but don't tell em they all did a good job when i you think there should be some meetings to get things fixed, I feel it was mostly common sense, there is a threat GET THE KIDS, STAFF OUT OF THE BUILDING, then worry about if it is a true problem or how severe it is don't do it while my son is in there and their is a potential bomb in the school, WRONG!!!!!!!!

We live in a town of 6,500 people - who would have thought something like this would happen?

Give the teachers, the super, and whoever else a break! They weren't prepared, this wasn't expected, they did the best they could! NOW, they know this is something they need to work on.

Let's focus on the fact that the staff did the best they could and that NO ONE was hurt! My son's 1st grade teacher talked to the kids about it at school today and they drew pictures of how they felt - I am SO thankful for that exercise. By showing me his picture, we were able to have a better discussion of his feelings and fears. The staff did the best that they could do under the circumstances!

Again, they can't tell anyone the WHOLE story until AFTER the investigation. It amazes me how people are so quick to point fingers and jump on a bandwagon. Why not support our administration and teachers? Why not start a parents' group to help push administration to adapt better procedures and help with that process???

Seriously folks, lets turn this horrible situation into something positive for our school, our kids and our community! Stop the accusations until we have the full story and do something positive and proactive!

viperboy-when I saw the picture in the paper I thought now why would they let parents in any school under a threat to harm? Why would you put more people in danger? Until enough people demand answers from the supervisor it ain't gonna happen. The butt covering will continue cuz it's working. They are hoping that soon this will all go away. Have you heard of fainting goats? If the lead goat faints the ones that follow faint also. They faint out of fear. My point being the so called leader fainted and the rest just followed. The real heroes are the teachers and staff who knew exactly what to do to keep the children safe and calm. That was only implemented after the leader gave the ok hours later. The one who is to blame is the school superintendent and he knows he screwed up big time. I know that I would die to protect my family and until the parents of this school district can truely say that they can go to bed at nite and feel their children will be safe when they send them out the door to school nothing will be done.
