International Falls Police Department
Hit and run: Lydia C. Lagat, 214 Fourth Ave., reported Thursday that her vehicle was struck while it was parked at Second Street and Fourth Avenue West, causing damage to the front headlight area of the driver’s side.
Dog bite: A dog owned by Erin E. Barlage, 701 19th St. E., bit Emily Underdahl, 8, 5747 County Road 77, Friday causing a severe injury to Underdahl’s head while Underdahl was visiting Barlage’s residence, according to a police report. Underdahl sought medical attention.

Personal injury accident: A vehicle driven by Lynn M. Wilson, 47, 1700 Eighth Ave. W., rolled over on Industrial Avenue Tuesday evening. Wilson was pinned in the vehicle and, as a result, International Falls Fire Department was called in to extract her. Wilson was transported to Falls Memorial Hospital with sustained injuries. Alcohol is suspected, according to a police report.

Police Report

Update: Timothy E. Steinbach, 47, International Falls, was charged Friday in Koochiching District Court with receiving stolen property. Officers went to Steinbach’s Loman residence Sept. 24, where they recovered items valued in excess of $10,000, according to a court complaint. Among the 100 items recovered were items from Up North Builders, Peterson Logging and the Loman county garage. According to the complaint, Steinbach admitted, in a post-Miranda statement, to knowing many of the items recovered were stolen and that he would pay people for stolen items they brought to him.

Assault: Zachary J. Olson, St. Paul, reported Saturday that he had been assaulted two days earlier while at a party at 1110 13th Ave., International Falls, and that he was being treated for injuries at a hospital in St. Paul. The incident is under investigation.

Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office
Property damage: Gary W. Isensee, 3076 County Road 125, reported Saturday that windows had been broken on his residence.


Falls man arrested for alleged thefts

An International Falls man was arrested Wednesday on possible charges of felony theft or burglary following a year-long investigation by the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office.
Timothy E. Steinbach, 47, of International Falls, was arrested by International Falls police Wednesday while Koochiching County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant on land Steinbach owned at 8548 County Road 32, Loman, at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Former Falls resident to defend in federally granted re-trial for Brainerd woman

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A federal judge granted a new trial to a Minnesota woman convicted of pirating music files, ruling Wednesday that he made an error in her trial. And he implored Congress to change copyright laws to prevent excessive awards against individuals in similar cases.

Burglary: Kurt R. Kennedy, 2745 County Road 94, reported Tuesday that sometime over the weekend someone had entered a locked laundry room at 815 11th Ave. W., and taken $800 in quarters.


Thefts of scrap metal increases

With a number of thefts of scrap metal in the area in past weeks, law enforcement officials are cautioning residents to keep valuable items out of public view.
The value of metals is high. As a result, people are taking scrap iron, aluminum and copper, as well as vehicles, including abandoned vehicles, and farm equipment from yards and fields to sell, Koochiching County Undersheriff Brian Jespersen said.
Residents should keep their items locked inside or use a camera to monitor the material, if the items must remain outside, he said.

Personal injury accident: A vehicle driven by Arlene A. Selsaas, 80, 1602 20th Ave., was backing out of a driveway on Memorial Drive when it was struck Saturday by a vehicle driven by Deborah K. Arnold, 54, 2808 Pleasant Ave., causing more than $1,000 in damages. Arnold was transported to Falls Memorial Hospital with possible injuries.
Property damage: A door of a instructor’s office at Rainy River Community College was reported kicked in Friday. The value of damage is unknown.

Collision: Vehicles driven by Dennis W. Ash, Fort Frances, and Nolan J. Windego, Fort Frances, collided Tuesday, causing more than $1,000 in damages. No other information was available.
Burglary: A motorcycle valued at $600 was taken after someone forced entry into a garage located at 905 Seventh St.

Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office
Theft: Wendy S. Kottke, 6652 Highway 11, reported Saturday that a riding lawn mower, valued at $1,700, and scrap metal, value unknown, was taken from her residence.
